Air conditioning can remain warm after a regas if the refrigerant quantity was not the real cause. Compressor control, pressure sensing, electrical commands, condenser airflow, blend-door operation or internal system faults can all affect cooling. If refrigerant has leaked out, the leak also needs to be identified rather than repeatedly recharging the system.

A modern climate-control system uses refrigerant pressure, temperature information, compressor control, electric fans, flaps and electronic commands to regulate cabin temperature. A fault in any of those areas can produce poor cooling.
If a system is low on refrigerant, the next question is why. If the charge is correct but pressures do not respond properly, the compressor or control system may need testing. If the evaporator is cold but the cabin remains warm, air-distribution or blend control may be involved. Diagnosis separates these paths before major components are replaced.

Refrigerant is contained in a sealed system. If the charge has dropped significantly, a leak should be considered. The best repair path depends on leak size, location and system design.
High- and low-side pressures need to respond appropriately when the system is commanded to cool. Incorrect pressure behaviour can point toward compressor output, control-valve operation, airflow or restriction issues, depending on the vehicle.
Pressure sensors, temperature inputs, system protection strategies and control signals determine whether the compressor is allowed to operate. A compressor should not be condemned until the relevant command and operating conditions are understood.
If the refrigeration circuit is producing cold air but the cabin outlet temperature remains wrong, flap motors, sensors or heater blending may need to be investigated. This is a separate fault path from refrigerant charge.
